The incredible power of the wind is what makes the difference. Stubble fire here back in the spring of 92 took out living green poplar bushes and left a black wasteland of ash and stumps in what used to be a thick green forest of living poplars. The guy should have had sense enough to not light a stubble fire on such a windy day. It works on the same principle of the old blacksmith's forge. Adding air blast to the flame makes the fire hot enough to bend and shape metal. Trees don't stand a chance. Freeze frame from some video I shot after the fire.
