northeastern Ohio | My vote is for steel.
I put white vinyl on my house 30 years ago. It has held up decent. Lawnmower occasionally throws a rock and makes holes. North side gets moss/algae on it and needs pressure washed (I never see that on steel siding around here). Siding rattles during the cold winter winds.
My brother's house has vinyl siding with wood trim (MDF?). Only about 27 years old and he has been fixing and painting the wood trim.
