For the top of the line in looks and near rot proof,,West coast red Cedar,,clapboards...costly but if primed on both sides it will never peel off any paint.Perhaps the New England look is not common out west.It is crazy cost wise,,local white pine clapboards work well as long as primed both sides.at 1/3 cost of west coast.
