Subject: RE: Anyone from Frankenmuth MI?

UP / Thumb of Michigan
I lived until recently near Frankenmuth. My opinion has maybe softened over the years. My negativity towards Frankenmuth may have something to do with me getting banned from the Bavarian Festival in my much, much younger days. Not sure if I'm still barred 45 years later of not. I likely had it coming, though.

Anyway:

1. Bronners is quite a place. Tremendous selection of Christmas related stuff. Everyone is pretty happy there.

2. Taken the grandkids to Splash Village a couple times. They seemed to enjoy it. Stayed right there in the onsite hotel. You don't have to do that, but it was a package that worked for us. Thats owned by Zehnders.

3.The chicken: when I was growing up, I preferred Zehnders over the Bavarian Inn chicken. Back then, it was 2 brothers that owned them, owned and ran separately. Zehnders bought the Bavarian Inn a long time back, so both are now owned by Zehnders. May be my imagination, or could have just been the day, but I now prefer Bavarian Inn. Tasted better last time I was there anyway. Should be the same stuff either side of the street, but Zehnders chicken just doesn't taste good to me anymore. Compared to the Bavarian Inn that is. Neither have the best chicken I've ever ate. Zehnders has a bakery in the basement that makes as good of baked goods as I've had anywhere.

4. I suppose the sites are something to take in once anyway. Frankenmuth has there own unauthentic idea as to what Bavaria looks like, pretty good at selling that. Its a tourist trap for sure, but I think you can spend about as little or as much money as you want. I've never walked from one end of downtown to the other in my life, and will be Ok with not doing that the rest of my life as well. Used to have to drive through on my way pretty much anywhere south of my farm, I've seen it all from the windshield a lot of times.

5. They do have a pretty famous car show there. I think its easily one of the largest in Michigan behind the Woodward Dream Cruise. If you want to consider the Cruise as a car show.
