Duke, honestly I would look for the oldest truck that you can find that will do the job.IMO stay away from any orphan lines like Sterling or any Orphan engines ,,such as INTs maxturd. The earlier trucks will have components easily found at rebuilders, junkers or after market parts as long as they were common units.Freightliner classics are quite cab durable, not much plastic prior to 2002.My self a bunk is a must but some guys cant back up with one on there.Myself only a standard ,,you can self change an older trans,,near zero electronic controls.Prior to 2000 will keep you away from some log requirements but probably mute for you with the local exemptions,Cats are cool but rebuilds will be 30 grand minimum. An old 400 cummins in a later 80's with a 13 speed would be my favorite for simplicity.Beware of frame rust on the old units.Say you find the real gem,,take the spec sheet and see whats out there for parts, just a couple calls will get you the answers.I would stay way away from any stylin cabovers of old,,just the cab components is all.
