SW Ontario | You should not need a router for the shop, just an access point and / or a switch (if you have devices to hook up with cat5 / rj45).
so:
home lan - bridge <-> bridge - switch - access point
You can omit the switch if everything will be wifi in the shop.
The equipment is pretty good these days, I have a bridge to our shop (1/2 mile) using two engenius devices that has been rock solid for 10 or 12 years. If you buy a set from a decent supplier I don't think that you can go wrong.
