| The Dewalts are in the short wave Ham radio frequency (151.625 range ) Other frequencies in this range require the FCC license. These have a couple of public frequencies which according to the FCC, are not to be used on a "commercial basis ". I don't know if the description of commercial applies to farming. They are in the 3 watt range, so have a limited range without boosters. The Yeasu hand held, depending on wether they are "bumped", operate in the same frequency range, but are tunable to the frequencies requiring the FCC license, and are in the 5 watt range. They can have a repeater ( high antenna in flat land ), and I think you can still get gear to connect from the radio to a cell phone. It just depends, like other posters say, on your needs and budget. Call a short wave radio distributor for more info. | |
