I used to do it somewhat similar with a 427. It was easier to shift the aux than the main, so sometimes shifted the aux an extra gear if wasn't going far enough to justify higher main gear. For example, I might go 4/OD and then to 5/D.


We had a number of two stick trucks. Mostly 5/4. We shifted them all like the shift pattern willvr shows. Although we never tried to shift both transmissions at the same time. I've heard about that but never saw it in action.

We shifted the 4 speed aux WAY more than the main. Loaded in the field under the beet harvester in 1/2 or 2/2, then just shifted up on the road. Split the main at least 2X, sometimes 3X.
