S.E. Iowa | Working on the house. Tore out chimney and am gutting the upstairs. I didn't realize the ceiling is insulated with blow in cellulose. The guys I had helping me had it tore out pretty quickly before I got there so I need to insulate it now. Should I keep the rest of the rooms with the blow in in place, or would there be some advantage to removing the cellulose? I am planning on running 2x6 furring strips to add batt insulation and wiring,as well as some over head duct work. Should i put plastic on ceilingI also tore out the chimney and it went good till I hit the cut stone where the mantle was on the ground floor. It took alot of hammering to get it out! I have a new respect for stone masons of yesteryear!
I also found there is a chimney in the wall where there was a stove upstairs and it must go to the ground floor for the original kitchen.
