Latimer, Iowa (north central) | You don't have to do it a year early. Just what I did. There is enough fluff built into 4 years of high school that if the classes are compressed a bit, or a study hall period, gym class, or two is eliminated, that its not difficult to do high school in 3 years. The year spent abroad will be much more valuable then another year of high school.
I started on South Australia helping a dairy farmer for 3 months during their busy season, dairy guy had a friend 3 hours east that needed help seeding on a small grains/sheep operation, got the crops in and ended up on a jackaroo crew in the outback on motorcycles mustering cattle and sheep for 6 months before had to come back for college. Was the experience of a lifetime. Had nothing planned beyond loosely knowing the first dairy farmer but being willing to work, mechanically inclined, and social it was no issue finding farmers that needed help, especially when i would work for pretty much room/board/beer/transportation.
If you take the full 4 years of high school its basically a year of goofing around, which is fine, but its one less year to be making your farm what you want later on.
