Wisconsin | That's the typical wood silo construction style. IF this one is a silo, and it sure doesn't make sense from the outside appearance, but then would never be shaped like that if it was designed to dry corn, if it was a silo then the inner vertical boards would be the tighter seal and the outer boards would be the tensile strength holding it together. The common problem with wood silos is they'd shrink and come loose, the weaving could be a repair and not how the silo was originally constructed. Imagine it's built without the weave, the inner boards will shrink across the grain, but the outer boards will not shrink as much with the grain, so it will get loose. Driving a wedge into every other board up and down would compensate for the shrinkage. Remember, not every design was the most successful! | |
