It seems there are a lot of experts on this site who know all about California and the fires. The people that live there enjoy the great weather and a great economy. My son lives near LA and his area is not affected by the fires. I visit them from time to time and you have to see the terrain to understand what has happened. In that area there is no timber worth harvesting and the terrain is extremely steep making fire fighting very difficult and coupled with a lot of rain in the summer time leading to more growth in the mountains coupled with the Santa Anna winds up to 100 mph leads to a difficult situation. With the winds a fire break doesn't do much good as the embers are carrying for over a mile now. Clearing the mountains of the growth from the mountains would only lead to severe erosion. It can be a two edged sword just like living in Florida where the hurricanes strike. It serves no purpose to start the blame game especially when you don't have clue of the situation there. By the way my relation who live there have done very well economically there.

They don't care, the thread immediately went to "us vs them" . I bet many "Christians" on here are secretly smiling seeing those places burn.

Finally a couple people with some common sense. Not the “experts” on here. Totally agree with the terrain out there. After all the mud slides and flooding that has happened out there the last few years maybe they don’t want it totally cleaned up?? Need something to hold the dirt down? It’s no different than what’s going on around my neighborhood. The city is always at risk of flooding and for future expansion they can’t build in some areas because the river will flood them out so like man always does is they find a way so now the federal government is building a 4 billion dollar water diversion to divert the flood water around the city. Now the people will be able to build houses back in the swamp again. Won’t have to carry flood insurance again. I was not in favor of the project. Thought there were other alternatives but I am no “expert “. Another natural disaster that is going to cost tax payers a lot of money.
