Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I have no experience with a GO display but last year when Turn Path was introduced, I decided to try the free demo version with my InCommand 1200. I did this in early Spring out in a field with nothing behind the tractor. This was possible because of our unusual open Winter. I would recommend this when possible so you can get the feel of how Turn Path works without the concern for an implement behind and actually performing some operation. As I recall you can start the free trial, test it, pause it and restart it again if desired. This would give you chance to play with it without an implement, play with it in actual conditions and then make the decision as to whether you wish to purchase the unlock or not.
I tried it without reading much about it and it seemed to make sense. I tried it and it seemed fine. I then changed a setting about whether "to make the turn on the first instance of an Outer Boundary or the last (final) instance of an Outer Boundary". This confused me because I didn't understand the need nor purpose of that choice. I will attempt to explain why such a choice is available and where you might use it.
To use Turn Path, your field must have an Outer Boundary and an active AB line. When Turn Path is active, the system steers you along the AB line as usual and watches for the Outer Boundary to determine where to turn around. It will turn around based on some values that it has computed which are usually fine but can be tweaked to your wishes.
Most of my fields would only have one Outer Boundary on the end of each pass. However, there may be situations where there is more than one Outer Boundary on some or all passes. By default, Turn Path will turn around on the first instance of an Outer Boundary. The operator can change a setting so Turn Path will wait (drive straight through) Outer Boundaries and not make the turn until the last instance of the Outer Boundary.
Here is an example of each situation. Refer to the crude maps below:
The Outer Boundary for my Home Farm is shown below. I cannot drive through the dooryard when working that field. I leave the option at the default setting of "turn around on the first instance of an Outer Boundary". I plant around the field following the Outer Boundary. I start the field proper in the upper left hand corner heading West. Turn Path looks ahead and sees 3 outer boundaries for that pass, one is the East edge of my dooryard, another is the West edge of my dooryard and the last is the far end of the field way to the West. Turn Path turns me around as I approach the edge of my dooryard which is necessary. On the return pass Turn Path sees only one Outer Boundary ahead at the East end of the field and turns around on it. Eventually I progress to the wide part of the field and Turn Path turns me around on the far edges of that area. I then drive to the upper right corner and finish planting there. Turn Path continues to work properly on those passes. In other words, I make no changes to the setting.
Here is a situation where I would likely change the setting so that Turn Path doesn't turn me around until the final or last instance of an Outer Boundary on a pass.
Suppose I have another field that is essentially a rectangle but has a waterway across one corner. The field and waterway have an outer boundary around them so auto swath will shut off my planter sections as best it can. Since the waterway is shallow, I may want to drive straight through them and not have Turn Path turn me around until the far end of the field. Changing the setting would accomplish this.
I would start planting the field by making a pass or two around the entire field outlining the waterway. When I start the field proper in the upper left corner, I want to drive through the shallow waterway and continue to the far end before turning around. Auto swath will control the planter clutches as best it can within the limits of the section widths. When a section is over an area that has already been planted or outside an Outer Boundary, it will turn off the section, As I approach the waterway, each section first encounters an area that has already been planted, then an area that is outside an Outer Boundary, then an area that has already been planted and finally back into an area that should be planted. Auto swath handles that properly. Turn Path only becomes involved when I reach the last or final instance of an Outer Boundary which is at the far end of each pass. Once I get past the waterway, there is still no problem since the last or final Outside Boundary is the only Outside Boundary on the end of a pass. Again this would mean that no change in the setting would be necessary for that entire field.
For many fields, either setting would be fine. If a pass has only one Outside Boundary ahead, the first instance and the last instance are one and the same and the turn is made at the proper location.
