OK. Those are good ideas in the wild, desolate west but do they fit where these fires are burning down 1000's of houses? How do urban areas do controlled burns as you suggest?

We have friends that lost their home in Poway, CA about 20 years ago. They simply lived in a hillside neighborhood that became engulfed in one of these inferno storms. That's largely what's going on.

A blurb below I found while reading about one of the areas. People are not oblivious to the dangers.

"Where are high risk fire areas in California?
Because Pacific Palisades and the Hollywood Hills are in areas considered “Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones,” homeowners are required to clear brush, trim trees and maintain clean roofs. State code also requires an inspection before a house can be sold."
