Ft. Ripley MN | I understand what you’re saying… but what makes the cash crop guys more important than livestock guys??? Plenty of us went through drought and low prices…. Imagine having to buy all of your feed after putting in the crops for the year…. I suppose the best example would be selling 100 % of your aph and only ending up with 30-40 % and you need to cover it
Guys on here say that they are taking it but think it should be canned because it’s welfare but the government is offering it so I should take it??? Where the logic in that
That’s not how it works. If you think something is wrong and shouldn’t be in place… you say no and move on. By taking the government handouts.. that means you’re in favor and guess what… they are gonna send you another round because they know you are hooked. The only way this stops is when you say no.
There was a discussion in market talk where guys where whining about they are entitled to the payment since the USDA fudged numbers… that’s a known thing that happens every single year… when’s the last time they have been right??? I may not be the smartest person… but if you listen closely there is some advice of playing the paper game and covering with physical… Soo technically you could of captured the rally… that’s not the governments fault.
You know it sucks… there is a lot of people betting against you but that means you need to put in the effort to figure out a workaround… cattle are at an all time high.. it’s awesome but your a fool if you think it will last… it’s no different for you cash crop guys… for any of you that thought $6-$7 corn would stick around… your a fool and that’s on you…
You will never have a winning year every year… you need to be able to average them out… take the good and cover the bad. If there is something happening that’s causing a negative return year after year you need to figure it out and mitigate it… not rely on government handouts
And before anyone says I have good ground… I’m in light sandy/gravel soils where rain is dependent… I don’t have feet of black topsoil | |
