And with no track record, which of these startups will grow tired of the effort or make some big mistakes? How can someone start a software company with essentially no online presence, or the handicap of running on a non-standard server configuration (Fahrenheit)?
It is worth noting that while Fahrenheit is available to anyone who wants it, it is targeted at Plain People who are part of churches who do not allow web browsing and therefore no online accounting software. There is surprisingly many people running businesses from these church groups, but I don't think Fahrenheit ever expects to grow beyond whatever market share they can get from these groups.
I think it is also worth noting that the market for accounting software is very large because practically every business uses it. That is how there can be so many businesses making the software and still all having enough market share to survive. One of my friends is a partner in ABC software (abcsoftware.us) and he said they have plenty enough of business even with all the competition. They have been around for decades though.
