They shouldn't.... They have no risk. But it pays what it pays until it doesn't. I can farm quite differently on land like that if I want too and make it work all day by cutting way back on fert and not giving a crap if the soybeans are full of pigweed


Think of it in value of investment involved. A landlord with an 80 acres that would sell for 15k/acre is bringing 1.2 million of value to the table. Would it require 1.2 million of equipment to farm that 80? No, not anywhere near that. And before you start roasting me, I realize that most farmers have multi millions of dollars invested in equipment. But that’s likely spread over 20-50 80’s or more. Also I do farm and rent ground. But I can definitely see both sides of this equation.
