I don't know how all the farmland would get farmed in ND without H2A program. 1st off H2A workers are not illegals. The majority of farms in this area use H2A because there is not anyone here to hire. Especially in certain areas like in western part of the state where the oil field has taken everyone. The population here is just so small there is not enough able bodies to hire. I don't know of hardly any business around here without a help wanted ad running. People that don't live in the tundra can't comprehend this. We have checked into the H2A program because it is so hard to find help. The research i have done you don't hire H2A to save money. It's not cheap and the whole process is a big hassle. You hire locals if you are able.
If labor availability is a problem, then labor value proposition is too low for the employee. Did they have problems filling jobs in the Bakken field? Asset and input cost of the equation must be too high to offer labor availability. Let it go unplanted and the market will raise the price to where it is profitable. Market manipulation comes in many shapes and sizes. |
