Southern Indiana | Sounds like a pretty good plan to me. As long as heifer knows what to do and gets calf licked off and calf gets a good full belly of colostrum should be good to go. Assuming you have facilities close by and a calf puller handy is a good idea. Mine has paid for itself many times over. Always keep good quality store bought colostrum on hand in case mama doesn't catch on to the program right away.
Not pushing it but I like the 50 g Colostrix supplement. Can get 100g but I've had great luck with the 55. Electrolytes are a handy thing to have too. Hopefully the heifers have had the scour bos vaccine, but if not I like baytril and banamine and sulfa bolus. | |
