swMN | Back in the early nineties I was the hired hand on cow calf/ feedlot , I mean the only hired man , boss went to Arizona for the winter, 350 momma cows, 1000 fed cattle at 3 different farms, I lived on the home place where the cows were wintered, going into December the cows kept getting out breaking the fence and scattering, I thought coyotes ,but I'd seen them chase em off, got up early Christmas morning to do chores to get to church, caught the neighbors Sheltie chasing the cows, he seen me about the same time, I ran to the house to grab a rifle, ran down the driveway, got him at about a hundred yards, I could hear said neighbors silo unloader going so I went and told him what I did, at first he was shocked, then said well the dog had done the same with his fresh western feeder cattle, so thank you I didn't have to do it, and told his kids the dog ran away. | |
