| You are correct that majority of requests will be denied, but they are entitled to a court hearing at which time their asylum request will be determined. Until the court hearing the asylum seeker is considered to be legal immigrant. Unfortunately the time it takes to have their day in court has averaged 4.3 years. During this waiting period the asylum seeker is a legal immigrant.
The failed immigration bill would have hired 375 judges to reduce this waiting period, but it was determined by those in control of legislation that it was more important to not pass any legislation during Biden term. | |
