It can we done, just not the “norm”. I know of a couple farmers that got started having access to rent family owned ground. The ones I’m thinking of the family had gotten out of farming but kept the land holdings. I know of one other 1st gen that started from absolute scratch, no family involment. He can tell his own story if he wants but both of us relied on off farm income to “start the snow ball rolling” and both currently have business pursuits that are ag related that accompany the farm operation. Diversification is the key to some form of stability when you don’t have multiple generations of assets to fall back on.
