There is no doubt that if there is no money in wheat farming you should do something else. I have been looking real hard at cotton as the guys that had cotton this year grossed over $450 an acre on average. Thing is cotton can be good here or really bad. Not ever any 3-4 bale per ac. possibility. Plus we are not set up with any row crop equipment or a cotton stripper, so that is an additional expense over wheat. One other thing that keeps us more into wheat is that it goes really well with a cow/calf operation. Truth be known, the cattle market is the only thing that keeps us going on a consistent basis.
