E.Central MN | Foreign students who graduated from our higher education institutions used to be encouraged to find jobs and start companies here in the US. That way we had access to a pool of very smart students from around the world. Now the US discourages them from staying here so naturally they're taking their intellectual skills home with them and benefitting their growing industries. China has a huge numbers advantage over the US in terms of how many students attend college to become engineers, scientists, etc. They have (or had) a growing economy with a lot of opportunities for college grads to get ahead, something that the US had back in the 1960's. While I agree that H-1B visa workers carry the risk of leaking information to their homeland, there are plenty of native born American's that would sell secrets for money and just as many in corporate management that are stupid enough to share information that foreign companies will gladly take to improve their companies/same as US companies would do here. Look at how much technology our car companies gave to China. I think our country is shooting itself in the foot by discouraging highly educated/highly motivated individuals who want to stay here after college or who have valuable skills that want to work in the US. | |
