Strathcona, mn | Farming has always been my passion. I grew up in the 80’s and only ever heard “forget about farming” from the older generation. I never had a “family” farm so farming was a dream….. after college I was fortunate, brave, or stupid enough to become self employed. I lived like a hermit and poored all of my money into the “dream”. 25 years later and a 400 mile move and farming now supports our life. Chances are I’ll never have or compete with the 3,4, 5 generation farms and that’s OK. What I have accomplished in this 1st generation will be available to the next if they so choose. If none of my kids grow up to want to farm then that is fine. I hope with all my heart that they all find happiness and success in what they pursue in life. If none of my children want to farm then either I’ll find another young person to “mentor” or shut it down and rent the ground out. Success is not guaranteed or defined. True success comes from within. | |
