| Food is the last thing people cut. Americans are addicted to eating out since both parents work nowdays.
Alternative protein is high also. Eggs are $5 locally, bacon is $5 for cheap junk, pork and chicken both significantly higher than before.
With heifers and cull cows being record prices there isn’t much incentive to grow herd size. Once guys start to grow herd size it’s going to take a long time for it to hit market, and the lack of heifers forsale may drive it up more.
Keep a 6wt heifer, 12 months she has baby, 24 months baby goes to sale, 30 months minimum before baby hits grocery store. So it’s gonna take 3 years to get herd numbers up. | |
