That sounds like Growing Rust Algae.
Had that in a water pocket around 170 ft deep here. 3 or 4 places had it, nothing will take care of it and it plugged everything up.
Ended up drilling a 65 ft tile well to get it a shallower water pocket to get out of it. Neighbor did the same thing also.
