First figure out if there's a buyer for goat milk in your area, and if not, if there's enough of a retail or raw market to make it work. I wouldn't even know where to begin looking for a goat milk buyer here, if there even is one.
Since you asked... Markets are regional, and wholesale never seemed worth the hassle for the prices I've heard. If you wanted to try direct to consumer raw milk, that's dependent on state law, here you can sell it, but you can't ADVERTISE or deliver off the farm. Probably no way you'd get insurance either. Which might be to your advantage being young, presumably with few assets, set up an LLC or not, lease everything, and start milking. Goats grow fast, kidding at a year old and usually having twins makes for fast herd growth and lots of surplus kids. Put a happy face on the operation, keep them on grass as much as possible for PR, charge upwards of $3/quart. Just like cows only they need better feed and die faster. | |
