Never did figure out why this phenomenon was, but I managed a fertilizer facility for a while in the early 80's. There were some years where up to 30% of my volume was sold and delivered in the last 2 months of the calendar year. I never saw or touched the product, it went directly into on farm storage. I thought that likely happened everywhere, but for some reason the facilities the company owned in mid-Michigan and the Thumb were the only ones with that much volume moving post harvest. Obviously wasn't just our company, all the retailers had the same thing. I assume that fall/ early winter farm fill up is more common now in a bigger area, but thats only a guess.

That's not a phenomenon at all. That's end of year purchasing at it's finest. Sometimes taking delivery instead of just paying for it adds another digit to the savings.
