A big reason for wanting sunlight is to help keep straw or cornstalk bedding dried out. Dairy cattle are usually on sand beds or mats and so having sunlight to dry it out isnt important. Also a high producing dairy cow eats more than a fat steer and gives off more heat so heat stress is a bigger factor in dairy cattle
