Southern Illinois | In our case, we keep building storage as the operation expands. We have an elevator a mile from our farm but their initial storage charge keeps going up and the per month storage charge keeps going up. Plus the difference between their bid and the river terminal bids(overhead charge) are just getting too large. We are 60 miles to several river terminals and 15 miles to a large hog operation which gives us several delivery choices which would just not work delivering to during harvest. In other words, the difference between local delivery and our other options has made it financially advantageous to build storage and of course truck it.
