Nc Ks. | I put up a couple small bins when I started out in the 70's and used the first few years. Back then wheat and milo were the two crops I raised. Not as "bin" friendly in my opinion as corn or soybeans would be. But after a few years of putting it into the bin, then treating for bugs (wheat), monitoring moisture and trying to keep in condition (milo), it was faster and easier for me just to haul it to our local independent coop and be done with it. I figured between the cost savings of not purchasing or maintaing a bin, the expense of handling the grain twice and keeping it in condtion while being stored, and then the patronage I collect as a member of the coop, the storage cost I incurred wasn't as much as it seemed just looking at the per month figure. Plus I noticed when acreages with bins came up for sale they didn't seem to bring near what was invested erecting them. Not knocking anyone who utilizes the advantages bins provide. Just prefer the advantages letting my coop do the work.
