Most custom feeding gigs take a lot of volume to make a living and justify equipment. The dairy hiefer thing can be slightly better in that you can sell your breeding skills etc. Still takes a lot of volume though.
Dairy barns convert very nicely into sheep barns. Your far enough east your lamb market is pretty darn good. Might be worth looking into
I was going to say sheep are ugly right now if fat cattle are worth more than fed lambs, that's not worth the hassle of sheep. On the other hand, it's hard to see paying $350 for holstein bottle calves, maybe the timing is right to try lambs. |
