Subject: RE: Sharpening chain saw blade

Mid-Michigan
I assume you are talking chain. Correct? I use a Silvey but I don't think they are in business anymore. If I were you I'd buy a Stihl or Oregon or other brand name ones that are made for saw chain. Go around and find out what guys are using around your town that do it commercially. It will last you a lifetime. Mine does a perfect job every time. Mine even adjust to sharpen one side to the other to make up for the distance each cutter is apart. There is a difference in them. If each cutter isn't the same it just won't cut like you want it to. I went so far as to by a raker grinder also but that isn't necessary. I rarely file anymore. I take 5 or six chains with me everytime I go to the woods. If I hit something or have something that is dirty, I just change the chain. I'll sharpen all my dull chains in the evening for the next day. I can't stand trying to cut with a dull chain but really got tired of sitting on a stump filing also. You might go to Madsens shop and supply in Washington. Ive ordered stuff from them before. They are a professional saw shop and I'm sure they sell grinders or clamp on file gizzmo's.
