coast of Maine | Get a really good vise that will grab bar well, can be cheap one,if you want to touch up by your furnace mount it on a heavy log stump then you can sharpen both sides with out de vising.(not a word but).set saw blade level, with chain med tight so teeth do not rock, use a chain that has angle marks in the top face of teeth.Pretend its just a knife you want sharp,be sure its a correct sized file as there are 3 common sized chain teeth.Wear good gloves.Push file along the tooth with enough force to pull some material, keep it level, but follow the angle, look at a new chain,as you shape the used chain,The problem some have is they tend to push down on the file, slide side ways pressure not so much down.Move the saw to the opposite direction or move your self around if on a stump vise.It will take a bit,I sucked at it 50 years ago I got a saw for my 14 th birthday.,cut pulp easy when I hit oak trees it was poor performing,,I was pushing down on the file and made hook shaped teeth. The stubs ahead of the teeth are rakers, use caution but a quick swipe with a good mill file will be all you need,,but not till you feel saw dust is too small in size.Take these off and you better be prepared for stitches,,some do in soft wood.It will take a few ruined chains,,but it will give you super abs pressing on the saw...Hehehe,,look at the new chain and say "I am one" works ... | |
