Subject: RE: Help me understand why 10-34-0 w zinc lost me 20 bushel

East Central Nebraska
3 years ago, thought I needed starter system put on planter (long story). That year, we had a bad drought and lucky we had a couple timely rains and average yield was 120. Did a test plot on a few numbers with and without starter and basically 11-15 bushels better with starter. 2 years ago, the weight wagon showed 5 bushel loss with starter and nearly that this year too (above APH yields). Sure looks better coming out of the ground and I can not see a difference why it would be less. Has to be less ears. I'm doing 4 gal in furrow. Last year I did the low salt starter stuff. Other 2 years was 10-34. 20 years ago, I had starter in furrow and never saw an advantage after many years of testing and a few times slight advantage, but didn't pay for itself. Should have know better to put it back on.
