Was told there were too many differences. Don’t know what they are, but just hunting for an 80’s.
The mid-cycle refresh on the squarebodys was in 1981. 1973-80 and 81-87(91) are quite different from each other.
The chassis is slightly different between those two. The bumper attachment points changed, and the body mount design changed. The body mounts need to match the chassis, but any body can be bolted on.
The front clip changed completely in 1981. Front clip components can not be mixed-and-matched between those series, but the whole front clip can be swapped. There were some minor changes to the cab when the front clip changed, but those aren't deal-breakers. An older front clip can be put on a newer cab, and vice-versa.
There were several different dash configurations, with the most notable dash change happening in 1981 as well. The wrong series of dash can be bolted into a cab with a little bit of work.
The seats changed in 1981, but any seat will fit any truck.
There were changes made several times to the door shells, which dictates what door panel will fit a given door, but any door will fit any cab. The only changes to the bed during the whole model run was in the fuel filler design.
