NCIA | I’ve been using smartbox systems for 20 years. They work fine but drive me crazy at the same time. The chemical is expensive. The monitor is always beeping. I calibrate several times and the boxes never run out evenly. I feel that with the price of the system and the price of the chemicals it should be more accurate. I use smartbox on any corn without rootworm traits or corn on corn. We rely more on the traits now than the chemical due to ease of use and cost. Last time we did a check on it was in 2015 and extended diapause was terrible. Smartbox corn was at least 20 bushels better. Smartboxes have a place but we actually try to avoid using them. Wish they were easier to use and more accurate. Priced a new system. Looks like I’ll be relying on traits for a while. | |
