![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=1306&type=profile&rnd=394) central - east central Minnesota - | Jim - 12/5/2024 18:50 I'm looking for an hydraulic powered mower for the front of my skid steer. Must be in very good condition. Around here, it's very, very hard to find a used on that isn't junk (very used up). Brush mowers in general, take a beating and abuse when used, more then any other attachment or tool out there. I purchased a Brushwolf in 2007 or 2008 or so. It has taken a beating clearing old buckthorn patches in wooded areas and fence lines. Mowing grass is one thing, add brush and small trees is another. You get what you pay for. As suggested, stay away from any off brand - non USA mower. The motors will be junk after a few short uses and getting parts will be expensive. The blades are the other item that dollar you to death. Some of the notable name brands of brush mowers I look at would be - Brushwolf (replacement blades are more expensive then others), heavy duty frame and hydraulic gear box driven (Cross Lake Mn). It appears to me, they make them for Cat. Verning Mfg (Rice Mn), good company with a couple different choices of medium duty, heavy duty and commercial duty, no idea on replacement blade price. They seem like a good framed unit and offer direct hydraulic drive. Jenkins offers mowers - don't know too much about them, but their other attachments seem pretty well made. The top of the heap, heaviest mower out there is the Diamond brand, Souix Falls South Dakota. Their blades are a good value/not over priced. Their heavy duty one is over $15k . . . . but if doing commercial jobs will out last the rest. Although, you can buy 2 or the others for the cost of one Diamond brand. There are lots of off brands out there on online auctions and other auctions - where are you going to get parts for them ? Keep in mind, if you purchase new, you'll likely get about the same money out of it in a few years if you go to sell it, if it's not all beat to hell. Good luck on your selection and search. |
