Clark, SD | Yes they are naturally occurring…but not in a large enough amount… especially when you’re removing some every year. No it’s not all available the first year, that’s well know, but it will all be available at some point… that’s the whole point of building soil fertility…. Some low cec soils won’t hold the fertility, and that’s where spoon feeding nutrients throughout the year come into place, just like what Randy dowdy does.
It actually wouldn’t. That one time build of K will pay for the next 50 years…these are long term investments, just as drain tile is. Tile is number one priority, then fix soil pH, then fertility levels. 4% base saturation k vs 1% is the difference between 40/50 bushel beans and 60/70 bushel beans. I’ve got spots in field with those levels and it’s night/day the yield difference. Even a 10 bushel difference at $9 beans is $90. Even at a 600lb rate of potash to get to that level your sitting at $120 to do that…complete roi in 2 years and the rest is money in your pocket every year for the next 50. Building soil fertility will pay every year, you really can’t afford not to build your soil fertility rates with how the math on it works out. | |
