cropsey, il 61731 | Tariffs or not the only "magic" Trump has is the same as Reagan or even JFK. Once in office, they stopped changing the rules (or did nothing). Elimination of the Chevron doctrine and Trump being keen to clean out a chunk of bureaucrats would amplify this effect. Oddly enough, it's regular people who drive the economy. In an ever changing regulatory, tax, political, etc environment, no one wants to start a business or expand a current business (except for the folks that paid... I mean lobbied for the regulation). If you farm livestock, you'll note that we can deal with rules as long as they are not a moving target. It's the same for opening a restaurant, light manufacturing or service business.
That said the "planners" are almost always wrong because they believe things work from the top down. Unfortunately, that results in a mostly welfare funded economy. As mentioned in this thread, lots of folks completely accept that. Government spending and handouts cause inflation. Nothing else. Therefore we get inflation with their planning. You can look at the decision making and the intricacies of the policies, but the bottom line is they all will fail. Of course, if you want a stratified citizenry (haves and have nots), it works great.
Political leadership likes to think they can make things better by rules and laws, but they can not. The really good leaders recognize this and generally good economic times (at least opportunity for good times) and relative peace are the result. Where it can fail is if the citizenry fails to adopt a "can do" attitude and goes for the entitlement attitude. Way too many politicians love this. They can have significant control for a while by passing out checks (it works in farming). It does crash though. | |
