Exactly, to move K levels in a noticeable fashion you need to be applying 200+ lbs extra an acre. Adding 50 extra pounds on potash is only 30 pounds of K2O which will move levels 3ppm. That’s such a small number it’s going to be hard to find unless you’re taking samples in the same places every year.

We’ve gone to raising levels on one field a year, and it’s an expensive endeavor, 20-40k per field in just added potash. But we figure this pays back way better than buying more land that won’t pay for 30 years. We’re getting an ROI on that added expensive in 3-4 years and then the soil levels will be there for decades.

Our method is get tiles into areas that need it, do any pH correction on the field, then get a good grid sample and fertilize K rates based off of that. In my opinion it’s better to bite the bullet and build the levels all in one year vs doing it slowly. Expensive endeavor but it pays off quicker that way.
