Heroin may actually be helpful in some instances apparently. If you could only get that nasty addiction potential removed from it.
I know very little about RFK Jr. I did watch the video link above where he discussed his battle with many addictive things, heroin being one of them. All I'll say is that he seems a lot braver than most in his willing to admit his addictions, how he got there, and how he got past them. An awful lot of people couldn't publicly do the same.
Theres lots of people who can use a lot of different substances and can stop using them at any time. And there's some that can't. And, I'm going to predict that this phenomenon is where this post will end up. That is: those who were fortunate enough to be born without an addictive personality will have many comments and solutions to combat that addictive personality or bad gene or whatever else someone who's never battled addiction themselves will use to describe someone who does have issues with addiction. Generally speaking, some will even look down on those with addictions as being weak of character or worse. Makes them feel better about themselves, I guess.
Anyway, I'm not at all in anyway suggesting that heroin, meth, cocaine, or any other drug known to cause addiction be promoted as a cure for anything to everyone.
I feel the same way about alcohol, tobacco, and some prescription drugs that are just as addictive to some people. But that horse is already out of the barn. Socially accepted, and the downsides are acceptable in the big picture apparently.
I happen to be one who's had issue with the brown bottle. 1 beer is too many, 100 isn't enough. Glad I got past that many years ago. Wasn't easy.
Lots and lots of people can have a couple beers and call it a day. And lots can't.
You’re a good man, Pat. Thank you for this quality post.
