West Chazy, New York
If you have someone who will drive past your house regularly there are thermostat switches that will turn on a warning light if the temperature drops below a set temperature. When we lived in Hawaii we used to leave the furnace on at 45 for several years, then we did the antifreeze routine. Two results from letting the house go cold. Linoleum in the laundry room (the coldest room in the house) shrank and cracked. The antifreeze collected in the rust of some old pipes and gave the water a horrible taste until we flushed the system for several hours.
