Before we went to strip till we moved away from any fall soybean stubble tillage. Field conditions were generally fit when we wanted, and we're farther north than you. Have you tried skipping fall tillage altogether on some acres? Need a good fc or vt in spring.

I wait until the last possible week before mother nature decides its too late, to do fall tillage. Only reason I work bean ground is to cover fertilizer, I farm lots of hills. Some years it's may 1st before it's dry enough to do any field work, and when it's time to go, we go!!! As I type it's 9 degrees and every shallow lake is frozen enough to walk on, dirts not gunna move for 4+ months.

Years past corn has been left all winter, and only disced twice before planting but not ideal.
