I understand the concept of load control. We used to have it here...........but I never signed up for it, and they let the program die after a few years.

I understand this is a complicated scenario. But back then they were trying to make generation as efficient as possible...........while still utilizing very dependable sources. Now they've worked inconsistent power generation into the model so it has upped the game substantially. And it has obviously come at a higher cost to the consumer. If we really want to see where this green energy phenomenon leads, one only has to look at Europe...........where they are a couple of decades ahead of us in this endeavor. There, electric rates are 3x higher than ours.

Currently power demand is not consistent and we have "consistent" power generation trying to match the fluctuating demand. Sure the current power generation plants can be varied somewhat but are most efficient at a stable load. I think it makes sense to have a diversified mix of power generation. Wind and solar theoretically are good to have in the mix since they match up somewhat with the demand. The current system of transmission lines and connections with different sources serve as one giant battery. Its interesting to me how the electric company is able to determine ahead of time if control is needed.
Finally, is it really possible to know the long term cost of electricity produced? What is the cost to decommission a nuclear power plant? And I know this is extremely unpopular: What is the true cost of coal or natural gas if it does contribute to global warming?
