Yeah back when trucks rusted out in four years, the front ends needed rebuilt often, motors were considered worn out at or before 100,000 miles, and on and on.

I still have the K20 I bought new in 1978. Well over 300K miles. It has been re bodied with a donor 84 due to rust. Original engine with the only work done being a cam and lifters prior to 100K miles because of improper cam hardening. Common issue then. Front end has had ball joints once, many years ago. Clutch was replaced once 20 years ago. It hasn't done much but plow snow from my 3/4 mile long driveway for 25 years. Not some sissy suburban driveway. I would put my solid axle, small block K20 up against any newer truck for durability and longevity when used as I do. IMO. YMMV.
