I was actually thinking about that I was writing my post.

I'd be in favor of "limited" govt support for farmers. Somehow it needs to be in place for true start up farmers. Everyone knows the folks in their area that take advantage of the govt payments. I've looked at the EWG website and have noticed how I'm listed ahead of many of the massive farming operations in my area. You reckon they're just taking one for the team?

Are there support payments for 'true start up' oil companies? How about department store true start ups? Tractor maker start ups?

Seems like everyone has the right to farm if they want to. Don't have the right to build campers or electrical transformers. You have to have a plan and be profitable to do those things. Maybe even have to band togetther with a bunch of like minded individuals. But everyone has the right to farm.

I'll keep beating the drum. We all remember many stores on our old mainstreet that are long gone. They disappeared for many reasons. Some retired, some the products became obsolete, but some were just bad managers in some or all aspects of running a business. However, a poorly managed farm can go on for generations. They gradually lose viability, but are propped up much longer than should be?
