South Central Illinois | Back in the 50’s and 60’s pickups did most of the hauling to the elevators. In the 70’s pickups pulled wagons to the elevators. One neighbor would keep a partial load of corn in the bed for weight. He did not unload it each trip. A different neighbor had a hydraulic lift under the pickup bed. A little easier to dump every time. Of course, all elevators had a hoist to lift the pickups to assist in dumping. And terminal elevators had a hoist to dump flatbed semis. |
