Kingston,Mi | When I worked at a Goodyear Tire store we had (2) 74 Chevy C30 service trucks. They were tough and as stated at 4 years old rusting rapidly. That years cab was the first with no drip rail over the doors and when it rained, you sat nearer the middle of the bench seat and let the rain enter, run down the door and out thru the rusting rocker panels. The trucks had over 100,000 miles on them and unknown but high hours of idling to run the engine mounted air compressor (rough estimate of 3,000 to 5,000 hrs in addition to drive time). Ours were 350s with a wide ratio manual 4 speed. My assigned truck appeared in a national print add and looked real spiffy, it was returned to us with white and blue duck tape covering all the rusty spots on the drivers side. Add featured the truck working on a tire on a Massey Fergason 1100 (or similar sized) tractor in a rolling corn field in lower Michigan. | |
